چکیده
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Postmenopausal osteoporosis leads to a significant decline in bone mass. That complicates the treatment outcome. The objective of the present study was to find out the effects of pulsed modulated low level electric field capacitively coupled on bone histology of induced osteoporotic rats, for screening the potential therapy for osteoporosis. METHODS Osteopororosis was induced by performed by bilateral ovariectomy of female Wistar rats. After one month of surgery electric field stimulation was delivered to one leg of experimatal rats while the other was sham exposed. After 60 days of exposure treated rats were sacrificed and femur and tibia bones were segregated into (i) control (CON), (ii) ovariectomized (OVX) and (iii) ovariectomized + electrical stimulation (OVX+ES). RESULTS Histopathological analyses showed that capacitively coupled pulsed electric field exposure treatment augmented and restored the bone marrow cell population. Immunohistological localization of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) showed the increased activity of this enzyme after electrostimulation, which showed an enhanced osteoblast differentiation. Collagen histochemistry showed high amount of collagen fiber in exposed rats bones than that of osteoporotic bones. Electron microscopic study revealed the enhancement of microstructural composition and compactness in cortical and trabecular part of treated bones. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSION Our results suggest that capacitively coupled pulsed electric field exposure treatment of specified parameters is efficacious in attenuating the effects of ovariectomy induced osteoporosis and restore the bone loss.

P-236: The Role of Trace Elements in Treatment of Ovariectomized Osteoporotic Rats
Background: Osteoporosis is one of the uncomfortable postmenopausal symptoms. The risk of imbalanced nutrition especially traces elements and vitamins are high during post menopause and may lead to osteoporosis due to reduction of content of mineral bone. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential consequence of Selenium (Se) treatment in ovariectomized rat model with osteoporosis i...
متن کاملP-181: Protective Role of Vitamin E As An Alternative Treatment for Ovariectomized Osteoporotic Rats
Background: Osteoporosis one of the postmenopausal symptoms is characterized by bone loss. There is a link between excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, estrogen deficiency due to cessation of ovarian function and bone loss. Free radicals are responsible for causing osteoblast apoptosis and reducing osteoblastogenesis in bone remodeling. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with the a...

Introduction: Experiments were done to investigate the cardiovascular response to glutamate (Glu) injection in the bed nucleus of stria terminalis (BST) in urethane anesthetized ovariectomized (OVX) or OVX estrogen treated (OVX+E) female Wistar rats. In this study also the effect of glutaminergic system of the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) on Glu stimulation of cardiovascular...
متن کاملPropranolol Prevents Osteoporosis and up-regulates Leptin in Ovariectomized Rats
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease and there is a close relationship between the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) and bone metabolism. Leptin has been shown to regulate bone formation and bone resorption via the SNS. However, the effect of SNS on leptin signaling has not been clearly understood. In the present study, we studied the effect of propranolol on ovariectomy-induced osteoporo...
